Discourse Community

I am apart of the discourse community of MySpace. My page is distinctively identified as female, by pictures, icons, colors, and fonts. We have, as you know, our own language, expectations of what you may or may not expose about yourself (the about me section, favorite movies, music, etc.) and know how to operate to get around the community itself, whereas an outsider might not know how to navigate the site.

Great discourse community to choose, Jennifer. Language and visual rhetoric are so important there. Are you a member of other social networking communities? I wonder if you see differences in the ways they use language and the conventiosn in those communities? I think Facebook, for example, is very different from MySpace.
